Go ahead and mark your calendars for Feb. 19-22. Not only is it our Mardi Gras weekend, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia will be visiting Pensacola on Feb. 19. Their visit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our residents and visitors to see the king in person as he addresses the crowd and helps our historic city celebrate its 450th anniversary.

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia will address the public at noon in Plaza Ferdinand from the TT Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum. The public will also hear from Governor Charlie Crist and U.S. Senators Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez. Spectators are asked to be in the park by 11 a.m.

A visit from the king will help Pensacola show the world our significant place in U.S. history as the country’s first major European settlement, established by the Spanish in 1559. We look forward to celebrating this momentous week with our residents, visitors and the Royal Household of Spain.
