The Pensacola Bay Area is a Paradise for Dogs

No need to leave your pets behind on vacation – the Pensacola Bay Area is paradise for dogs, too! A dozen hotels in the area welcome pets, plus there are scenic walking trails, dog parks, and even a dog beach. At Bayview Park on Bayou Texar, dogs have 1 acre to run and play without a leash, plus their very own beach where they are free to roll around in the sand and swim in a protected area of the bayou. Watch our video of the dog beach, recorded this month.

Located on Summit Boulevard near Pensacola Regional Airport, dogs have the freedom to run around and meet other furry friends at Roger Scott Complex Dog Park. Named for its proximity to Shoreline Park in Gulf Breeze, Shoreline Bark Park is a 30,000 square foot enclosed facility with benches, trash cans and doggie bags. There’s also a separate section for smaller dogs. The Navy Point Walking Trail features a 2.5 mile paved walking trail along Bayou Grande for dogs to enjoy the scenery.

Pet Travel Tips
  • Bring along a list of several veterinary clinics in your destination
  • Make sure your pet is current on all vaccinations – many airlines require documentation
  • Travel during quiet times of the day or evening to make sure your pet remains calm
  • Take frequent breaks to allow your pet to get exercise
  • Always travel with your pet in a carrier or seatbelt
  • Pack snacks, travel-sickness pills and plenty of water
  • Pensacola can get hot in the spring and summer, so never leave your pet unattended in the car
